How is everyone? Its been a while. But I wanted to show you all some images that I have made in La Crosse, WI. They are about the midwest, and March, and that lasting dirty snow, and the victorian era plays a role because it's furniture design and architecture are so visible here. Hope everyone is great.

Hey Kate,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say sorry for not writing about this earlier. I like the work, but I think I keep reacting to it as separate from your artwork -- I'm not sure if it's fair, but it seems more like things you made when you arrived at a place for the first time. It seems also like each image could be a part of a separate body of work, rather than working as a whole. I really like the images individually, though, and I think you and I share the need to photograph a place when we arrive there. Maybe to understand it and get used to it. Funny because I have been doing some photographing around RI recently and I'm not totally sure why -- maybe there are stages of becoming used to a place, and I think I am also trying to move around the space to draw up other ideas for my work. Plus it is nice outside which feels odd and great.
I also see a little bit of humor in the first image, because I keep making it into a shark fin - not sure I usually see humor in your work, but I like it.
Anyway, I would love to see more from you (and everyone.) I have been in a bit of a funk and having trouble making work. But I am hoping to get back into it this long weekend. Love, Carolyn.
